Exploring Possible Cooperation on Education with Kazakh Agro Technical University

On February 8, 2017, the Indonesian Embassy in Astana held a meeting with the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of Kazakh Agro Technical University (KATU), Astana, Mr. Sergey V. Mogilniy and Director of International Cooperation of KATU, Mrs. Saltanat Meiramova. The meeting was aimed at exploring cooperation between Indonesia and Kazakhstan in the socio-cultural dimension, particularly in the field of education. The Vice-Rector of KATU expressed his readiness to establish cooperation in the form of exchange of students, teachers and joint research with the higher education institutions/universities in Indonesia, especially with the universities that specialize in agriculture and husbandry.

At the meeting, the Embassy of Indonesia in Astana also expressed its readiness to support and provide assistance and facilitation for realizing cooperation between universities in Indonesia with KATU. The Embassy stated that Indonesia also has universities, strongly specializing in agriculture, such as Bogor Institute of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University, and the University of Indonesia. Further, the Embassy convinced that relations and cooperation between universities in Indonesia with the university in Kazakhstan are very important to make concrete contributions in promoting and improving people-to-people contacts as well as providing food security in both countries. At present, several universities in Indonesia, among others, the University of Udayana, ITB, University Gunadarma, and Aptikom have established cooperation with the universities in Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh Agro Technical University, which was established 60 years ago, is one of the best universities in Kazakhstan, ranking 5th in the national rating. While Internationally, KATU ranks 701+ in QS World University Ranking. KATU has specialization in the field of agriculture. Three out of eight faculties are associated with the agriculture, among others are Agronomic Department, Land Management Department, Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry. KATU has cooperation partners with more than 150 universities from 30 countries. In addition, more than $1.5 million USD was allocated for research and development in 2015, reflecting its serious commitment in advancing research in the agriculture field.
