Indonesian MPs discussed Interparliamentary Cooperation in Astana

In the period from December 2 to 10, 2016, two groups of Indonesian Parliament delegation, dealing with the Interparliamentary Cooperation Board and Commission dealt with the issues of trading, industry, investment, small and medium-sized enterprises, state-owned companies, respectively, paid a working visit to Astana to meet with their respective counterparts in the Mazhilis of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan (lower house of the parliament) and discuss relevant issues of common concern.

On December 6, in the building of Mazhilis of Parliament, during the meeting of the group of Indonesian deputies led by Mr. H.Syaifullah Tamliha with Mr. Abay Tasbulatov, Member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of Mazhilis of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the two sides exchanged information and views on the role of the legislature to support the national development in their respective countries, including in the area of energy and food security.

Kazakhstani side expressed its wishes to the Indonesian side to join the Islamic Organization for Food Security of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (IOFS), which was established at the initiative of Kazakhstan.

Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation between the parliaments of two countries, and to establish the Parliamentary Friendship Groups between the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia and the Mazhilis of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Speaking about the prospects of relations, Kazakhstani deputies expressed appreciation to the Indonesian side for the support of initiatives of Kazakhstan in the international arena.

One the same day, during the meeting of the group of Indonesian deputies led by Mr. Teguh Juwarno with Mrs. Meruert Kazbekova, Secretary of the Committee for Economic Reform and Regional Development of Mazhilis of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the two sides exchanged views on different issues of bilateral cooperation in the area of trade, economy, investment, tourism, agriculture, infrastructure and transportation.

On tourism sector development both sides support the efforts for establishing direct flight between the countries in order to boost more exchange of visits of both countries’ citizens.

In addition, Indonesian side unveiled the economic potential, trade and investment opportunities of its country to the Kazakhstani deputies, and appreciated the simplification of visa regime for Indonesians in connection with the participation of Indonesia in the upcoming International Specialized Exhibition EXPO-2017 in Astana.

At the end of both meetings, deputies of Parliament of Indonesia extended their congratulations to the Mazhilis of Parliament on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
